I was looking for something to paint as we settled into our latest house. Not having my studio set up yet and having no models lined up in the new area where we lived, I decided to paint something from my book of paintings by Adolphe Bouguereau. It was a life changing effort as I struggled to attain the feelings seen in the people as they related to the child in Bouguereau's original painting. I later studied in Florence, Italy, learning the techniques of the Old Masters and returned home to further work on the painting with the new knowledge I had acquired. Since then, I have used the painting as reference for improvement.
