The Bit & Spur Artisan

Chuck Irwin, famous bit and spur artisan, was 91 at the time this painting was made in 2015.  His great variety of bits were often displayed at Western art shows across the country as were his spurs, belt buckles and leather works.  Chuck had a great sense of humor and shared his wit with his many friends.  I was honored to produce two portraits of him while he was alive.  He allowed me to take photos of his collections and equipment at his home in Santa Ynez, California, which I may transform into paintings in the future.

I was saddened by news of his passing in 2018 at the age of 94.  He will be fondly remembered.
